How to Measure a Sofa Before Apartment Removal
Measure the sofa and the entire exit path—not only the front door. The tightest turn is often in a hall, elevator lobby, or stair landing.
The useful measurements are the sofa’s width, overall depth, back height, and diagonal depth, plus the clear width and height of every doorway on the route. If the legs unscrew or a sectional separates, record the size of the largest remaining piece.
Walk the route in the same order the sofa will travel
Start at the sofa and follow the path to the loading area. Measure the room doorway, hall width, stair width, landing depth, elevator opening, elevator interior, building exit, and any gate. Note fixed obstructions such as railings, counters, low lights, and door closers. A wide doorway does not help if the sofa cannot rotate in front of it.
